I first read the Slashdot headline, "New G5 Power Macs 'Fastest Desktop In the World,'" which reeked of BS, then I just saw this page on the Apple site and I was appalled. I really wanted to deconstruct this, but an Apple fan has already done this for me well enough.

Yeah, it's not surprising. This is a fairly common thing to do, although reprehensible. Apple's in a tight place these days. They had the same kind of stats crud a few years ago with the PPC vs x86 pipeline depth stuff. *sigh*

Everyone tries to fudge their own benchmarks - it's a sin we're forced to accept. It's not a fairly common thing, however, to fudging other people's benchmarks by a factor of two.
