Zelda: Twilight Princess and Okami, separated at birth?

I'm only throught the first temple in Zelda: Twilight Princess, but I'm already struck by how much more similar Okami and Zelda are than I originally thought. More specifically, I'm shocked by how close Twilight Princess and Okami are. It's as if they shared the exact same concept art when they were being created. The spirits that you free in Twilight Princess are very, very similar in design to the gods you free in Okami, both feature darkness covering the land that you clear bit by bit, both have a wolf as the main title character, and both have an annoying companion character that rides your back as a wolf. Above you can see screenshots of the spirits/gods for comparison -- I wasn't able to find good screenshots on the Web, but these should give you a general idea.

They are still very different games and I am enjoying both. They are twins that were separated at birth and grew up in to very different adults. Both feature unique gameplay features that are fun to explore: Okami has its brush system and Twilight Princess delivers the Wii remote fun. The overall stories, despite their similarities, are also very different. But I'm still surprised when I come across yet another thing in Twilight Princess that makes me think that someone snuck a peek at the concept art from the other.

blah!:

both good games. however, Okami has an art style that is oh so amazing....it's like you're playing art. Twilight Princess is a better game, i mean, it's Zelda, but not insanely better, just slightly. Both make me happy to own both.

darcy:

me, i know Okami is my fave game, the art, story and the markings on Ammy(Okami) is amazing, go Okami.

Kira:

No actually Okami was already in development when Twilight Princess idea came. So technically Zelda is a rip-off of Okami by trying to be a wolf. But also, Okami was influenced by previous Zelda games coz the director loves Zelda games. But the said director was disappointed by Twilight Princess.

The controls are different too. For example, Zelda can't control his wolf speed or jump. Which would kill me if I owned that game, coz in Okami I like to jump randomly for I like to see the red leaves and Ammy jumps.

Tori:

I love the game Okami but I havn't played Zelda...but I totally played okami 4 hours

Kiwi:

okami is soooo beautiful, and i love the end... but i think okami and oki were really cute together ;) it made me sad to see them seperate. :(

Yes, you can control your wolf speed AND you can jump, even superjump in Zelda.

Van:

I was just noticing that myself, playing Okami for the first time. I found lots of similarities on the macro and micro level. I noticed all the ones you mentioned, and a few you neglected.

1. The idea of learning new brush skills, is similar to learning the sword skills in TP.

2. The style of walking the wolf does is almost exactly the same in both games. (I felt like I was used to controlling Okami, even though I've never played it before.)

Falconer:

Did anyone ever notice that Wolf-Link and Ammy both have markings on there foreheads... I love both games and after playing Zelda, I got completly crazed about wolves and that is why I bought Okami!
