Orange Bowl: Go USC!

In the matchup of the Heisman-candidate quarterbacks, Palmer crushed Banks (with the help of some excellent USC D). USC simply unloaded on Iowa for the entire game by spreading the ball around on offense (Fargas, Williams, McCullough, Byrd). Palmer racked up 303 yards and a TD pass (Williams). Iowa was able to put seven on the board after a 100-yard opening kickoff return, but after that was fairly silent. In the words of Mike Williams, "After the kickoff, they didn't do anything."

Orange Bowl Boxscore:

Final 1st 2nd 3rd 4th T
Iowa (3) 10 0 0 7 17
USC (5) 7 3 14 14 38

Environmentally-Friendly Rocket Fuel

Rocket fuel that's environmentally-friendly, and cheaper to produce. Imagine that: news release, images. Even more weird is that it's paraffin - the stuff was fun to play with in chemistry class, but who'd a thunk it?

Curry

I'm learning disabled when it comes to cooking, but one thing that I have did manage to pickup (from my Japanese aunt) is that coffee grounds are an excellent spice when it comes to curry. And really, what isn't better caffeinated? Take caffeinated soap for example. Squeeky clean and shockingy refreshed at the same time.

If you really want to up the mix, throw it over some tonkatsu like I did tonight and you'll be in heaven.

Supreme Court Rules on Copyright Extension

The Supreme Court unfortunately upheld Congress' copyright extensions. I thought I'd post this link to Breyer's dissent, as it is refreshing to see someone who get's it.

Kerry: "Mr. President, Do Not Rush to War"

Speech by Sen. John Kerry given at Georgetown University. Possibly transcribed by Truthout, which is where I obtained the transcript (see extended). I think someone on the Beta list sent me the original link.

I like the Spiderman-like quote: "With great power, comes grave responsibility."

20,000 Bytes Under The Sea
Poster & Abstract
Emory Kristof
Photographer-in-Residence
National Geographic Society

This was a really nice talk IMHO. The guy's been with National Geographic forever and throughout his career has had to build leading-edge photography rigs to expand National Geographic's photographic reach beneath the sea. Some of his work also helped inspire Titanic the movie. His more recent work has been with high-definition capture, and the pictures he showed were amazing (especially compared to non-high definition versions of the same stuff).

Zealot is popular

Went to Maggie's b-day party in the city. Everyone was waiting in the lobby of the Clift Hotel Redwood Room for Maggie, turns out that she was already inside having some delectabe desserts. Ended having a Tawny 20-year-old port and a Cuban something dessert that was very chocolatey and very good.
