The Tour de Georgia is on

Tour de GeorgiaI can at long last create my 'Tour de Georgia 2007' category: VeloNews is reporting that the race will move forward as planned. Instead of a single marque sponsor, it appears that a "coalition of committed sponsors" chipped in to keep the race rolling in full for another year.

If they can secure one more year then I can finally book my tickets to go see the event :)

Update: according to cyclingnews, there are twelve host community sponsors with the Georgia Department of Economic Development getting the title role. I guess this makes the TdG the GDEcDTdG.

I'll be there and I can't wait. I was starting to get nervous that I wouldn't get to see the pros race on Brasstown Bald this year, so I was glad to hear that the state stepped up. It would have been a shame for Georgia to lose this race.

Indeed, this is great news. Mind you, I'll still be arguing for the supremacy of the Tour of California, but that's local pride. I'm looking forward to making it to Brasstown Bald one of these days.

I wouldn't argue that the TDG is better than the Tour of California. Both are great to have here in the States. I'd like to make it out to Cali to see that race one day too. At least this year I was able to see some really nice shots from you and others on Flickr.

This Tour de Georgia will be the first for me since I bought a DSLR. I'll be trying to remember some of the tips that you posted a while back.

Two words: press pass :). With your Technorati rank I'm sure you've got enough traffic to justify it. The more photos the happier I am -- its great to have coast-to-coast blog coverage of these events.

All my ToC snark is because I'm jealous that the TdG has a mountaintop finish. The ToC organizers aren't ready to bite that one off yet.

That is a good idea. The TdG says that only "legitimate news sites" will be considered, but it won't hurt to ask.

kwc:

Don't worry about what the Web site says and don't worry if they turn you down online -- just walk into the press room and ask for one in person if all else fails.
